Above is an image of a juvenile Little Blue Heron. Blue you say! the bird is not blue but white. Juvenile Little Blue Herons are white and will turn blue as they mature into adulthood. In fact it is very hard to tell a juvenile Little Blue Heron from a Snowy Egret. Little Blue Herons have grayish bills and greenish-yellow legs compared to black bills and black legs of a Snowy Egret. Both are all white and the same size. In fact when you see one or the other, it is very common to say "I don't know" what kind of bird it is I am looking at. Often in life, we try to resist the urge to say "I don't know." We guess or we make something up that sounds convincing. However, the way to knowledge starts with "I don't know" and if we pursue the truth, we may learn the correct answer to the questions in life. "IT IS OK TO SAY I DON'T KNOW!"
