Above is an image of a Red-bellied Woodpecker on a stag at Green Cay Wetlands. Have you ever noticed that some birds name describes them to a tee and other names just seem way off. The Woodpecker does peck that is true, but "Red-bellied" does not really describe this bird very well. It seems in our modern world we have lost the art of simple names. Older cultures used simple names or places to describe people and places to define them. Now our names sometimes completely do not make sense. There is a need to simplify our naming process to express what describes things simply and better define our world. "A WOODPECKER PECKS!"
